Could I get a side of disgust with my shock? May 11, 2006

Posted by table4five in Uncategorized.

I would have started writing this sooner, but my laptop needed to dry out after I finished ShopVac-ing the tears out of the keyboard. Mama Tulip emailed me to ask if I was shocked by yesterday’s American Idol. Shock is putting it mildly.

Other titles I considered for this post:

Does this black armband make me look fat?
Chris Daughtry was ROBBED!!!

I’ve no doubt that the Blogosphere is buzzing like crazy today with the news that Chris got voted off last night. I read in the paper that Paula Abdul burst into tears (finally, she has an actual reason to cry on the show), and that Simon’s mouth dropped open. There is no doubt in my mind that Simon’s record company will offer Chris a deal. He may have gone into the final 12 doing pretty much the same Creed-like rendition of every song, but he came out a changed singer.

I may be in the minority here, but I don’t like Elvis Presley’s music. It’s just not my cup of tea. But Chris sang the hell out of “Suspicious Minds” and “A Little Less Conversation”. And he was all sexy sunglasses that he whipped off at one point with this smoldering look. Yum.

When the Chris Daughtry CD comes out, you bet your sweet ass I’m buying one. And you should too. Why? BECAUSE KATHERINE CAN’T SING AND SHE DOESN’T DESERVE TO WIN.

If you had told me 6 weeks ago that Elliott would be in the top three, I would have said no way. Are people really going to buy his CDs, and tickets to see him warm up for Kelly Clarkson or Daniel Powter or James Blunt, as he inevitably would if he wins?

Are people going to pack outdoor arenas to see Taylor do his Joe Cocker impersonation?

Is Katherine going to get a sexy(er) makeover and start singing songs written for Christina Aguilera like Kelly Clarkson did?

I’m just disappointed. Chris deserved this. And “America” let him down. I don’t even care anymore. I don’t care who wins because I don’t like any of the remaining three. So if you don’t mind, I think I’ll turn Thursday into ‘Thursday Thirteen’ instead. Hope you’ll still come by.

I wrote an e-mail to jess asking, “are you there? or are you in the bathroom throwing up your feelings?”

what the F, indeed.

that said, I respectfully disagree with you – I feel katharine can sing (tho she butchered the HELL out of that Phil Collins song, Oh my Lord) and she is the most commercial out of the 3 left…so like ryan alluded, maybe she’ll win via splitting the Taylor and elliott votes(neither of which are “big vevue” players..

I didn’t watch it last night, and so I am SHOCKED! None of the three that are left “have it” in my opinion. oh well….

I’m sorry but I just LOL’d at the thought of you shop-vaccing the tears out of your keyboard. I thought of you as soon as I read about it this morning on CNN.

I just read on The Green Straw (good celeb blog, if you haven’t seen it already) that some celeb show — maybe ET — is announcing that a “big” band is making Chris an offer, wanting him to be their lead singer. I didn’t follow the show at all this year but from the little I saw of him performing, it’s obvious he’ll get something better than what he could have gotten from AI.

We are all in mourning, too. Seriously, you should have heard my girls when Chris got voted off – I haven’t heard screaming like that since they discovered a pincher bug in their Bratz Stylin’ Trunk.

Even my husband, who hates all things Idol, was outraged.

What is wrong with people? And I agree, I fear that Katherine is going to win, and she has ZERO charisma. I’m getting close to a boycott.

TOTAL SHOCK AND DISBELIEF doesn’t describe my feeling about it. I remember other contestants in previous years who exited before their time but this one is the worst I think! He was EASILY the “idolest” of all the contestants. And he’ll be a star.

Jen-“Are you in the bathroom throwing up your feelings?” HA!! And I should say it’s not that I don’t think she can sing, per se, it’s that she takes on these huge Celine Dion/Mariah Carey songs that just don’t seem right for her voice. If she does win she better find a really good manager to help her pick her songs.

CS Mom-There’s plenty of room over here on my opinion couch if you’d like. And you know I’ll probably keep blogging about it out of habit.

Mama T-I haven’t heard of The Green Straw but I’ll check it out. Let’s see, big band, needs a new singer, ummm, maybe Creed is dumping Scott “Scary Sex Tape” Stapp and will offer Chris the job!

SP Mom-I cracked up at “Bratz Styling Trunk”! Ew, what’s a pincher bug? And that’s exactly what I think about Katherine too, it’s not that she can’t sing, it’s that watching her is just not that interesting.

Mrs. F-Look at you, with a new baby and all, taking time to watch AI and then coming here to comment! You rock, mama.

In conclusion–I can’t believe Chris is gone.

Seriously, I despair, America. You love Taylor Hicks and you won’t watch Veronica Mars. I just don’t get it.

8. Elizabeth - May 12, 2006

Jess-I KNOW! What the h-e-double toothpicks is WRONG with this country?

9. Mocha - May 13, 2006

I am saddened. I am shocked. I am totally disturbed.

But NONE of that has to do with American Idol because I don’t watch it. Never have.

You really needed some cheering up there, girl. You’re distraught over this and I was merely lending support. 😉
Have a wonderful Mother’s Day.

Just thought I’d let you know an article I came across (msnbc.msn.com/id/12748906), apparently at least one online petition has called for a recount of the votes and has 16K+ signatures. Also a lot of people who called said they got a message from Katharine thanking for the vote when they called the line for Chris.

Also, it looks like the band Fuel has offered him a job.

Just trying to offer a happier ending to this. ;>

Once again, I wish I watched Idol just because you make it sound so good! Of course, not anymore. Sorry your guy was voted off. 😦 Maybe this will be a good thing for his career, you never know…

12. Elizabeth - May 13, 2006

Snide, I heard that too, about the lines getting switched so votes for Chris went to Katherine. If I were Chris, I wouldn’t bother with a recount. I’m not that familiar with Fuel, but I bet if he takes their offer he’ll be much more successful.

Mary, Thanks! Next week, just watch “Lost” instead, mmkay?
